Children can be susceptible to rotavirus, asthma, allergies, and RSV from a
young age. This article outlines the primary respiratory illnesses which
can affect children. It provides useful tips about protecting your family
and shows why Domex is one of your staunchest allies in the fight against
What is RSV?
RSV is short for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. It’s a common cause of
severe respiratory illness in children under two years old and a common
reason why children are admitted to hospital with a respiratory
infection. RSV is the second largest cause of death in infants under a
year old after malaria, causing 160,000 deaths per year, according to
the World Health Organization.
How is RSV spread?
It’s spread by inhaling a nearby cough or sneeze, or by touching a
surface or tissue contaminated with RSV, and then putting your hand to
your nose, mouth or eyes.
Common symptoms include a cough and earache. RSV can cause more severe
conditions like bronchiolitis or pneumonia, which may require
How to avoid RSV:
Wash your hands frequently. Children, elderly people and people with a
poor immune system should avoid contact with anyone suffering from RSV.
Encourage your children to cover their mouths when they cough. Because
the germs are easily spread, it’s important to use a total germ kill
product like Domex bleach to disinfect high-use surfaces like taps,
toilets and floors.
What is rotavirus?
Many of the stomach bugs that affect children are caused by rotavirus.
It’s the most common cause of serious diarrhoea in babies and children.
How is rotavirus spread?
When children have rotavirus, their poo hosts the germs. The virus
enters the body through the mouth, usually on fingers but sometimes on
toys or other objects. The germs spread as easily as touching the hands
of someone who has the infection or by touching something that has been
touched by a person with the infection, such as toys, furniture or
countertops. The germs can survive a long time on surfaces.
A mild to moderate fever, vomiting and stomach ache, watery diarrhoea,
and a temperature characterised by cool, dry skin. The diarrhoea could
last up to nine days. Severe dehydration is a side effect that requires
Does bleach kill rotavirus?
Domex kills all known germs dead, including rotavirus. Use Domex Ultra

use a bleach-based spray to clean other surfaces. Disinfect cleaning
cloths by soaking them overnight in a diluted solution of Domex and
drying them thoroughly. Finally, make sure to wash your hands and your
children’s hands regularly.
Other Causes of Respiratory Symptoms Reactions
There are, of course, other causes of respiratory symptoms in both adults
and children. In particular, both adults and children can get allergic
reactions, causing breathing difficulties. People often ask, ‘can mould
make you sick?’ and yes, common culprits include mould fungus on walls and
damp caused by condensation.
If you have mould fungus in your house be sure to deal with it immediately.
A solution of Domex bleach and water will kill spores outright. Tackling it
decisively should help reduce mould allergy symptoms.
Domex is the ultimate weapon against all known germs which threaten your
family. RSV and rotavirus can make you sick, but with Domex your loved ones
